Moderator answers:When filling in an area, it depends on the “look” I want (smooth, pebbled, etc.), but for something like a pewter pot, I’d go with a satin stitch or a “long and short” stitch for a smooth look. Http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art56355.asp
Maria asks… Do you have any tips for doing hand embroidery for a lefty?I’m wanting to tackle a hand embroidered table cloth. It’s a very simple design, needing only the stem stitch, French knot and straight stitch. I can cross stitch but hand embroidery is new to me. I’m left handed so do you have any tips/suggestions as to how I can adapt some of the stitches (like the stem stitch)? I’m assuming I can just do a mirror of it but I want to see if anyone has any tips for me. I learned to knit right handed so I wouldn’t have a problem with patterns but I won’t be able to do that with hand embroidery as my right hand isn’t very dexterous! Thanks!
Moderator answers:I find it helpful to scan the pages from stitch books/instruction leaflets and print them out with the images reversed. Or failing that, I use a little handbag mirror while I am learning a new stitch. I do not think it makes a difference to the finished effect if, for example, the stem stitch is a mirror image as long as you are consistent. The main thing is to be comfortable and enjoy the stitching. Powered by Yahoo! Answers Product Name: Your Questions About Embroidery Stitching Hand 253
